#10 300 2006 -A 1998 comic book series by legendary artist/writer Frank Miller. I’ll be honest I never picked up the book when I was a collector. However, the movie speaks for itself. How many of us now have a friend or a friend of friend that’s doing the 300 work out? We all know the story which throws a comic book fantasy twist on the Battle of Thermopylae. The movie was a shot to shot adaptation of the original comic. The Miller like effects and coloring makes this graphic novel into a great graphic film.

#9 Sin City 2005 – This was the original Frank Miller Graphic novel turned to movie. If you’re not familiar with Frank he’s responsible for some of the best story lines in comic book history. The now famous Miller Daredevil stories of the 80’s and probably his greatest claim to fame The Batman Dark Night series written by him in the late 80’s. Miller went on to Dark Horse comics to do Sin City. The movie adaptation was great with star studded performances from everyone and their mama. Bruce Willis, Britney Murphy RIP, Rosario Dawson, Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Benecio Del Toro just to name a few.

#8 Blade 2 2002– I’m a big fan of vampire storylines. We all know there’s a ton of them out there right now. Blade was probably the first crossover vampire storyline that I really enjoyed. The original hero came out of Marvel Comics and made his first appearance in 1973 in the Tomb of Dracula comic. I enjoyed Blade 1 but Blade 2 took it to an entirely new level. Directed by Guerllermo Del Toro famous for (Pan’s Labyrinth and the Orphanage). Del Toro took on a new artistic approach by adding his own flavor to the storyline making it a great comic book movie.
#7 The Incredible Hulk 2008- Don’t get me wrong the first Hulk movie directed by Ang Lee wasn’t bad but wasn’t great either. The overall film lacked any real depth in the story and true villain. The remake of Incredible Hulk starring Ed Norton and Liv Tyler was a far better version with a much better story. Not to mention a real hulk villain out of the comics “The Abomination” played by Tim Roth.
#6 X2 2003 – the sequel to the X Men movie was not only better but added more to the original story. In X2 we are introduced to more familiar faces from the comic book Beast, Angel, and a vague introduction to Jean Gray’s Dark Phoenix. This movie spawned the Xmen Origins series with Wolverine and I expect more to come. The X2 storly line was a little more closely tied to the comic which I’m sure made X-Men fans happy.
#5 Hellboy 2004 – Another popular Dark Horse Comic turned movie. This time the son of hell summoned by the Nazi’s to use as a weapon. Unfortunately for the Nazi’s the young Hellboy falls into the wrong hands. That’s right the US ARMY finds him and he’s raised by Professor Broom to help fight evil. The film adaptation is directed by Guillermo Del Toro, need I say more? Ok Ron Pearlman does an excellent job playing the beast of apocalypse. Just as an FYI, Del Toro is currently working on the Hobbit Movie.
#4 Spiderman 2 2004 – The first one was great and added a new revamped touch to Spidey’s origin. However, Spidey 2 added one of his all time great foes Doc Ock aka Doctor Octopus played by Alfred Molina. The storyline, action sequences, and pretty much everything else was done well and even better than the first.

#3 Ironman 2008 – To be honest I was never an fan of old Iron man or the Avengers. So I really set my expectations low when this film came out. This movie really surprised me and Robert Downey Jr. is what really makes this Iron man’s suit shine.

#1 The Dark Knight 2008- This could possibly be the Godfather of comic book movies. We’ve seen the Joker played by Jack Nicholson, not bad, not bad at all. But this Joker played by the late Heath Ledger won an Oscar for best supporting actor. This movie is no joke, seriously there is nothing to laugh at in this movie. All the cheese from all the prior Batman movie attempts and TV show were wiped away with The Dark Knight. This movie is exactly what it says it is DARK. Action packed for 2+ hours and it transcends to something more than just your standard comic book movie. This movie has set the bar and to be honest everything else that has been released post Dark knight has sucked in comparison.
